Wigan: Cashier attacked in Wigan bookmakers

September 17, 2012, 6:23 am

A man wielding a metal bar threatened staff and stole cash from a bookmakers in Wigan.

At about 7.25pm on Thursday 13 September 2012, the offender, who had his face covered, went into Ladbrokes on Elliot Street, Tyldesley. There were two other customers inside.

He went up to the cashier and hit the metal bar against the counter and demanded cash.

Money was handed over and the man walked out.

He is described as being white, of slim build, about 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall, and in his mid to late 20s. He wore a grey/blue hooded top. He was wearing white gloves, which may be cycling or cricket gloves.

He covered his face with light coloured scarf tied up to his eyes and he used a laced JD Sports bag to carry the money.

Detective Constable Andrew Hill said: “Thankfully nobody was hurt although those affected have been badly shaken up.

“Clearly this man has no issues in intimidating members of the public and members of staff to get what he wants.

“The description we have issued, particularly in relation to the scarf and gloves, is quite distinctive and I would urge any witnesses who could help us to get in touch.”
