September 25, 2012, 11:01 am
Police executing a drugs warrant in a south Leeds suburb have recovered in excess of £25,000 pounds of what is thought to be Class A drugs.
Officers from the Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team were responding to information from local residents when they targeted the terraced house on Trentham Grove, Beeston last Thursday evening (20/9) at 6.30pm.
Following a search of the property, officers recovered a large bag containing what is believed to be class A crack cocaine.
Police also uncovered a number of suspected stolen goods, including a large number of high street branded clothes with the security tags still attached. Among the items recovered were a H&M suit, a Berghaus coat and a number of items from Marks & Spencer and House of Fraser.
Officers also recovered two air rifles, two packs of pellets, three mobile phones and a significant amount of money.
Inspector Paul Akerman, who leads the Holbeck Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We focused on this address as a result of information from the local community.
“This type of activity demonstrates how we will actively investigate any report of alleged criminality within our communities and will take any necessary action.
“The recovery of such a significant amount of class A drugs, which would have been destined for the streets of Leeds and West Yorkshire, shows what can be achieved when the police and the community come together.”
A 39-year-old local man has been charged with four counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and one count of possessing criminal property. He appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Saturday (22/9) and has been released on bail.
