West Midlands: Armed robberies linked as police appeal for witnesses

September 26, 2012, 11:47 am

Detectives have launched an investigation following two armed robberies yesterday afternoon.

The first offence happened on Webster Road, Coventry just after 3.45pm when two people robbed a man in the street.

They approached and threatened him with what is believed to have been a hand gun and fled after snatching his bag.

At around 8pm, two men brandishing a weapon, believed to be a hand gun, marched into William Hill Bookmakers on Sewall Highway in Walsgrave and threatened staff.

They demanded money and escaped with a quantity of cash that was handed over by staff.

The robberies are being linked and detectives have issued descriptions of the two men as they appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Both are described as dark European and around 5″9 to 6ft tall. One of the thieves was wearing a dark coloured bomber jacket whilst the other was wearing a hooded top and baseball cap.

Detective Sergeant John Garbett, from Coventry police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and may have seen the incidents to come forward.

“If you feel you may know the identities of the men, we would urge you to speak to us as soon as possible.

“Fortunately no-one was seriously hurt during the robberies but this was a very frightening experience for all involved.

“We are determined to catch those responsible and are appealing to anyone who can help our investigation to contact us on 101.”
