West Mercia: Appeal After Teenage Girl Sexually Assaulted In Lay-By – Shifnal

September 24, 2012, 12:08 pm

Police are appealing for information following a report of a serious sexual assault in the Shifnal area last week.

A 16-year-old girl has told police she was assaulted by a man known to her in a car in a remote lay-by off Madeley Road at around 9am on Wednesday, 19 September.

The girl met the man in Shifnal at 8.45am and was made to get into the vehicle – a grey, recent model Vauxhall Astra – before being driven to the lay-by.

Following the assault, the teenager was taken to a road called Oldbury Wells in Bridgnorth, where she was allowed to get out of the car at around 9.30am.

Detective Sergeant John Weaver from Shrewsbury CID is investigating the incident. He says: “A man in his 40s was arrested the same day in connection with the assault and was later released on police bail while we continue our inquiries.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the Ryton area or from anyone who saw the girl get out of the Astra. She is white, has blonde hair and was wearing dark clothing at the time.

“I would like to stress that this is an incident between two people who know each other. I would further like to reassure people that we take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and do all we can to support victims of such crimes.”

Anyone with information about this incident can call Det Sgt Weaver on 0300 333 3000, quoting 122N 190912 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
