Police focus on under-age drinking in Blairgowrie
September 21, 2012, 2:32 pm
Tayside Police officers in Blairgowrie will join with partner agencies to highlight issues of under age drinking, illegal drugs use and anti-social behaviour with support from the Perthshire town’s Gig Nightclub tomorrow night (Saturday, September 22).
The aim of this initiative is designed to promote the safety of the night time economy for both patrons and staff within the town. Over the past few years there have been various incidents of public disorder outside the nightclub as patrons are leaving the premises at the end of the night. There are also incidents of drug abuse as well as under-age drinking reported.
In an attempt to address the above issues Tayside Police is working closely with Perth and Kinross Council Licensing Department and the licensee of The Gig Nightclub to find solutions to this issue.
To increase community confidence, there will a high visibility police presence in the area to help reduce instances of anti-social behaviour. Officers will be attempting to identify and prevent persons under the age of 18 entering the nightclub and also those who are entering the premises in the possession of controlled drugs.
