Police Service of Northern Ireland: Update on suspicion of terrorist activity

The security alert in Markethill Road, Newry has now ended.

ATO attended and carried out a controlled explosion. The suspicious object has been declared a hoax.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have arrested three men in Lurgan on suspicion of dissident republican terrorist activity. The men, aged 23, 28 and 35, were arrested yesterday evening in the Kiln Road area.

Two cars were stopped and a suspected firearm was recovered. The vehicles and the suspected firearm will now be subjected to a detailed forensic examination.

The suspects have been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for questioning. The police investigation is continuing and Kiln Road remains closed.
