Then around 3am thieves got into a house in Cosgrove Court and stole a blue Mitsubishi Lancer – NH06WBJ.
At 3:25am the Transit that had been stolen from Downend Road crashed into a parked car in Lodore Road. The driver fled the scene.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Newcastle Detective Inspector Dave Culverwell said: “We believe the burglaries may be linked and the offender or offenders used the stolen van from Downend Road to commit the other offences.
“I’d appeal for anyone who saw a white Transit van behaving suspiciously in the early hours of Saturday morning, or anyone who may have any information into the burglaries, to contact us as soon as possible.”
Enquiries into the burglaries are ongoing and the stolen Lancer and Yaris are still outstanding.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
