September 24, 2012, 1:53 pm

Detectives in Scarborough are appealing for information about an aggravated burglary which left a man hospitalised.

The 43-year-old victim suffered broken ribs, a broken nose, damaged lung, perforated eardrum and various cuts and bruises in the incident, which occurred in his own home on Nelson Street at about 9.30pm on Monday 10 September 2012.

Two men wearing balaclavas burst into the house and attacked the victim with weapons believed to be baseball bats.

The offenders then stole various items from the property before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim, who is a former soldier, managed to attract a neighbours attention by calling for help. He was taken toScarborough Hospital by ambulance where he received treatment for his various injuries. He was discharged from hospital on Friday 21 September.

Detective Constable Matt Collins, of Scarborough CID, said, “This was a very nasty and brutal incident which could so easily have resulted in fatal injuries.

“The sooner the two offenders are arrested and brought to justice the better for all concerned, not least for the victim who has only just been discharged from hospital.
