New arrest in 2007 Southwark murder

Police investigating the 2007 murder of Edvin Johnson in Southwark have made a new arrest in the case and are renewing their appeals for witnesses and information.

A reward of up to £20,000 for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible continues to be offered.

This morning, 19 September a 23-year-old man [P] was arrested in connection with the murder and was taken into custody at a central London police station. He was later bailed to return in late October pending further enquiries.

On Sunday, 16 September 2007 19-year-old Edvin Johnson was found with a single stab wound to his groin at around 21:00hrs in the stairwell of Barnet House, Crawford Estate SE5.

He was taken to Kings College Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation revealed that a group of approx. 12 youths were on the estate at the time of the incident and it is believed that five of these youths attacked Edvin and another man.

Neither man is believed to have been the intended target.

Three knives were recovered during subsequent searches of the area. One of these had Edvin’s blood on it.
