“I am writing this appeal on behalf of my Wayne Stockdale, a loving family man who was innocently shot/murdered whilst cycling through an underpass at Bow E3 on Friday 6th May 2011 at approx. 10:20pm.
“Wayne sadly died 4 days later at the age of 42 from a gunshot to the head, and left behind a loving partner, 3 children and a grandson. Wayne was also a loving son, brother and uncle.
“Wayne’s murderers are still at large and continue to live their lives normally unaware and uncaring of the devastation they have caused to all of our family.
“Whilst we are all still trying to come to terms of what happened to Wayne, his partner Anne has just been diagnosed with secondary cancer after the fight against breast cancer that she beat with the great help of Wayne just before he was killed.
“Anne will never be cured of this cancer and her biggest wish is to see Wayne’s killers brought to justice before anything happens to her, which is also the biggest wish of Wayne’s mum, who at the tender age of 70 had to endure the pain and heartache of burying her son, which no parent should ever have to do, time is against them both and we all as a family urge anyone out there that has any information no matter how small to please come forward and help us give Wayne the justice he so deserves…if there’s anything that anyone knows please contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
Police were called at about 22:20hrs on Friday 6 May 2011 to reports of a man shot. In an underpass under flats at the junction of Knapp Road and Rounton Road E3, they found a man suffering gunshot wounds.
Wayne Stockdale, aged 42, from Poplar E14, was taken to Royal London Hospital where he died at 12:50hrs on 10 May 2011.
A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.
An incident room is open under Detective Chief Inspector John Crossley at Trident.
It appears Mr Stockdale was riding a bicycle in Rounton Road when two male suspects armed with handguns opened fire, shooting him in the head.
The males, described as black or Asian and wearing face coverings, made off towards Knapp Road and got into a car.
DCI Crossley said: “I would like to reiterate the appeal made by Wayne’s family for anyone who knows what happened on that night in May last year, which resulted in Wayne’s murder.
“We have always maintained that Wayne was not the intended target for this incident, which saw shots fired both at him and into the street.
“It’s now over a year since the murder took place and we hope the offer of an reward will encourage people to come forward with information.
“If you have any information about Wayne’s death, please contact us and help bring closure to Wayne’s family.”
