Man critical after Whitworth Park Attack police appeal for information

September 12, 2012, 9:32 am

Detectives are investigating how a man came to suffer life-threatening head injuries after he was found in a park in Manchester.

Shortly before 8.50pm on Tuesday 11 September 2012, police were called to Whitworth Park, Manchester, following reports of a man being injured.

Officers attended and found a man believed to be his late 30s with serious head injuries.

He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as being critical.

A cordon is still in place at the park as inquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Julian Richardson said: “We do not know what has happened or what could have caused this man⿿s injuries, but we are keeping an open mind.

“We are in the early stages of our inquiries and it would therefore be inappropriate to speculate.

“A team of detectives is co-ordinating inquiries at the scene, which is still cordoned off, and we are also trying to trace CCTV from the surrounding area.

“We are, however, keen to hear from any witnesses who were in the area last night and who may have any information which could assist us.”
