September 24, 2012, 1:16 pm

Police seized thousands of pounds worth of cannabis following a stop check on a car in Blackpool.

An officer stopped a vehicle on Rigby Road, Blackpool, on Thursday September 20 and one of the passengers then tried to run away with a large plastic bag. He was detained by the officer and a large quantity of cannabis, over half a kilogram in weight, was found inside the bag.

A subsequent search of an address in Alexandra Road revealed a large sum of money, drugs paraphernalia and a large number of valium tablets.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply; a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis and a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis. All have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

“This was a significant amount of drugs that we prevented from reaching our streets and having a detrimental impact on our neighbourhoods.”

Inspector Laura Lawler Blackpool police

“A significant amount of the crime in our communities is committed to fund drug habits – so we are dedicated to tackling this issue and putting dealers behind bars. We need the publics help to do this and would urge people to come forward with any information they have about drugs or drug dealing.”
