Elderly man pushed over, CCTV Images released – Salford

September 6, 2012, 2:26 pm

CCTV images have been released of two men suspected of pushing an elderly man to the floor and stealing his mobile phone, after following him from Manchester to Salford.

At about 10.30pm on Sunday 17 June 2012, the offenders approached the 77-year-old man outside Tesco at the Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Walkden, and asked him if he was waiting for a taxi.

The victim said he was and the pair then pushed him to the floor, assaulted him and then stole his mobile phone and other items from his pocket.

Officers believe that the offenders had seen the victim at a bookmakers at Piccadilly in Manchester city centre, followed him out and even got on the same bus as him to Salford.

The CCTV images released have been taken from the number 37 service.

The victim suffered a cut to his hand and extreme shock.

The offenders are described as being young black men. One of them was 6ft tall and wearing a dark jacket and blue denim jeans.

His accomplice was about 5ft 5in tall, of slim build and wearing light blue jeans.

Detective Constable Horace Bell said: “This was a planned attack on a vulnerable elderly man, and it has badly affected him.

“Since the incident we have carried out a number of inquiries, including circulating these images on a police database, and we have established what we understand to be the full circumstances behind this offence.

“It appears as though he was followed on a bus from Manchester, which makes it all the more imperative to catch those responsible.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the young men pictured to call us.”
