Statement regarding shooting in Crumpsall

Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson said: “Shortly after 1.20pm today Wednesday 19 September 2012, police received a call in relation to an abandoned suspicious car on Ardern Road at its junction with Holland Road, Crumpsall.
“Officers attended and spoke with the driver of the car. He stated that his car had been shot at. It has several holes which are consistent with this.
“The victim has provided us with an initial account which we are acting upon.

“He has so far said that he was involved in an altercation with the occupants of another car, having cut him up at the junction. He says he travelled into the path of a Black BMW motor vehicle.
“A man then got out of the BMW and fired several shots at him and the car sped off.
“The victim’s car has been recovered and house to house and other enquiries are on-going.
“There is no suggestion at this time at all to indicate that this incident is connected to yesterday’s tragic events in Tameside.
