Cyclist seriously injured following collision on East Lancs this morning

At around 7.45am today, Monday 17 September 2012, police were called to the A580 eastbound near to Newton Lane in Golborne, following a report a car and a cyclist had collided.

Officers attended and found that a 35-year-old woman had suffered several injuries including a serious head injury.

She was taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment where she remains in a critical condition.

Junction 23 of the M6 was closed for a short period but has since been reopened.

Police Constable Stephen Dunning said: “If anyone witnessed this mornings incident on the A580 that has left a 35-year-old woman seriously ill in hospital, then please get in touch with us.

“We are carrying out an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision.”
