Cambridgeshire: Seatbelt campaign results

September 17, 2012, 1:28 pm

MORE THAN 250 drivers were caught without a seatbelt during a targeted week-long campaign.

Between Monday, September 10, and Sunday, September 16, Cambridgeshire police issued 252 drivers with a £60 fine for not wearing a seatbelt, this included having passengers and children not buckled up.

The initiative was part of a campaign across Europe organised by TISPOL (Traffic Information System Police).

Casualty reduction officer PC Steve Gedny said: “There were seven drivers fined for having children under 14 without a seat belt.

“Not only are they putting the children’s lives at risk, but also other people in the car.

“Seatbelts are a simple but life-saving device and it is against the law to travel without one.

“I would like to remind drivers that it is their responsibilityto ensure young passengers are wearing seatbelts.”
