Avon & Somerset: Weston drug dealer jailed

September 25, 2012, 3:07 pm

A prolific drug dealer operating in Weston-super-Mare has been jailed for two years and nine months and received a confiscation order for more than £800.

Michael Bateman, age 24 and from Raglan Place, was jailed on Friday (September 21) after pleading guilty to possession of Cocaine, possession of MDMA, possession with intent to supply MCAT (methedrone) and two counts of possession of a weapon.

Police arrested Bateman following a warrant at his home in February where, along with the class A and class B drugs, officers found CS sprays and a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone.

Sergeant Mark Raby from Weston’s Town Centre Team was part of the team that executed the warrant.  He said: “Michael Bateman is another example of our continued focus on targeting drug dealers operating in our town.  Removing drugs from our streets is a priority for residents and businesses and for our police teams.

“The fact he has been jailed and had money he has made by dealing in our communities taken off him should send a strong message to other dealers.  We remain relentless in our efforts to rid Weston of drug-related crime.”
