A woman has died in a road traffic collision on the M62 a 31yr old male remains in police custody.

A woman has died in a road traffic collision on the M62.
Shortly before 3am on Sunday 16 September 2012, police were called to the M62 eastbound just prior to junction 21 following reports of a head-on collision.
Officers attended and discovered a Renault Megane had been travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway and was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet Matiz.

The rear seat passenger in the Chevrolet Matiz, 20-year-old Rebecca Caine from the Leeds area, suffered fatal injuries.
The driver of the Matiz and two other passengers suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Megane, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and providing a positive sample of breath and remains in police custody for questioning.
The M62 eastbound from junction 21 remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident. There is also a lane restriction on the westbound carriageway.
Sergeant Lee Westhead from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A young girl has tragically died in what appears to have been a totally avoidable collision. A team of specialist officers are now investigating and we are providing support to the victim’s family. My thoughts are with the victim’s family at this terrible time.
“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision or a Renault Megane driving westbound on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 in the early hours of this morning.”
