Police name murder victim

Police investigating the murder of a woman in Somercotes have released the name of the victim.
Jade Riley-Ward, of Burke Drive, Somercotes, was formally identified this afternoon (Monday, September 24).
Emergency services were called to a house on Burke Drive just before 4pm on Saturday, September 22 and found the 30-year-old woman dead.

A post mortem examination carried out yesterday revealed she died from multiple stab wounds.
Detective Inspector Karen Pearson, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance so far in coming forward and speaking to police.
“We would still like to speak to a potential witness who may have had contact with the victim on the day of the incident in relation to the purchase of a puppy.
“I would urge this person to come forward as they may hold information that is significant to the investigation. I want to reiterate that we only want to speak to this person as a potential witness. Please contact the investigation team on the police non-emergency number 101.”
A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with her murder and is still being held by police.
Forensic examinations at the scene are continuing today.
