They have taken my son Mark and now my loving husband Dave

The family of David Short, who was found dead following an attack at a house in Clayton on Friday, has issued a tribute.

David was the father of Mark Short, who was recently killed at the Cotton Tree pub in May 2012.

Davids family has paid the following tribute to him. They said: “Dave was a very special brother and a fabulous uncle.  He was a loving, kind and funny person who never failed to make us smile.

“He was so precious to all in his life and we are lucky to have known him. He had a huge heart, just like his son Mark, they were both loved more than words could ever describe.”

Davids wife Michelle has also paid tribute. She said: “Dave was a loving husband, a fantastic father to Stacey and Mark and an amazing grandad to Maddisson, Karson and Mark Junior, who he idolised. Daves family was everything to him, he would always be there for family and friends when they needed him.   

“They have taken my son Mark and now my loving husband Dave. They may have broken our hearts but they will never break our spirits. One way or another we shall get through this. 

“I will always love you and you will always be in our hearts, forever and eternity.”

Davids body was found at an address on Folkestone Road East in Clayton shortly after 10.30am on Friday 10 August 2012, after police were called following reports of gunshots. There had also been an explosion at the address, which was later found to have been caused by a grenade.

A second grenade explosion took place nine minutes later outside a house on Luke Road in Droylsden, but no-one was injured during this incident.

A 37-year-old man who was arrested late last night on suspicion of murder in relation to this incident remains in police custody, where he is being questioned by detectives.

Police are still looking for 29-year-old Dale Cregan, who they also wish to speak to following the two attacks on Friday. Cregan is also wanted in connection with the murder of Mark Short, Davids son, at the Cotton Tree Pub on 25 May 2012.
