A man and woman were assaulted and robbed as they made their way home in Sale.

Sometime between midnight and 12.30am on Tuesday 7 August 2012, an 18-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were making their way home along Derbyshire Road following a night out.

As they reached the junction with Matlock Close the two offenders approached and asked the man the time before dragging him to the floor.

They then kicked and punched the victim before stealing his mobile phone from his pocket.

The woman tried to stop the assault and was thrown into some nearby bushes.

The man suffered minor injuries to his head and face.

Both are described as being of mixed race, in their early 20s, 5ft 6in tall and of medium build. One was wearing a black leather jacket and the other had a scarf covering his face.

Police Constable Alastair Jones, from the Volume Crime Team, said: “The victims were followed a short distance before this incident so I am appealing for anyone who was in the area and saw them or thinks they know who they are to get in touch.”
