4 people have been arrested after a firearm was discharged in Salford.

August 9, 2012, 6:48 am

Shortly before 7.50pm on Wednesday 8 August 2012, police were called to Cecil Street, Walkden, following reports of fighting in the street.

Officers attended and were told that a firearm was discharged during the incident.

Three teenagers, aged 16, 17 and 19 and a 20-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in police custody.

A firearm was also recovered nearby and will be subject to forensic examination.

No one was injured.

Inquiries are continuing.

Detective Inspector Joe Clarke, of Salford CID, said: “It appears that a number of people have gathered on Cecil Street last night and some sort of dispute has ensued, during which a firearm was discharged.

“We quickly attended and recovered a firearm and arrested four people.

“I want to reassure the residents that from what we are being told, the weapon was not pointed at anyone when it was discharged, although this investigation is ongoing.

“We will be working over the coming hours and days to try and find out exactly what has happened but as is most often the case the people of Salford are our eyes and ears and I would urge anyone with information about this incident or those involved to contact us in absolute confidence.”
