August 21, 2012, 7:28 am

A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition after being struck by a vehicle which failed to stop in Manchester city centre.

At around 2.30am on Tuesday 21 August 2012, police were called to John Dalton Street, following reports a silver Vauxhall Corsa had collided with three pedestrians as they crossed the road.

One of the pedestrians received serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.  He is in a critical condition.

A 30-year-old man received a broken leg and a 32-year-old man received superficial injuries.

John Dalton Street is closed in both directions and inquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Peach from North Manchester CID said: “We are keen for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to get in touch.  A man is in a critical condition in hospital and two others have been injured and we need information that can help us find who is responsible.

“If you saw a silver Vauxhall Corsa speeding away from the John Dalton Street area in the early hours of this morning, please contact us.  The information you have, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, could be vital for this investigation.”
